Interactive TV
Interactive television (ITV) enables the viewer to interact with the TV set to a considerably greater extent than simply controlling the channel and the volume or using the video player. Interactive TV makes way for many new possibilities and a multiplication of options for arranging one’s own individual TV program, choosing channels and films. For one thing, interactive TV allows for watching the chosen programs and films in high definition and at a suitable time. But it also enables sending e-mails, commenting on films and participating in various film evaluations as well as playing games, searching for information quickly and many others.
Interactive television is a broad concept which may refer to several different types of broadcasting of programs and films. One of them is IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) which operates using a separate Internet network. Its reception does not require a computer, only a set-top-box which is connected to the Internet and processes all the signals. This device is connected directly to the TV set and it may also function as a digital TV decoder.
Another type of interactive TV is the extremely popular Internet TV which enables watching films online. Internet TVs in Poland operate mainly within large portals, but also within traditional TV stations. A good example is iTVP which broadcasts its programs under the patronage of TVP. However, this type of interactive TV requires a computer with access to the Internet and the Internet browser which processes selected film formats.
